Configure Outlook Anywhere on Mac Office 2011

Well, after much research, it is really simple.

 https://remote.domainname.com/ews/exchange.asmx

When setting up the account, choose manual and use the above for your link to the server. Change the domainname.com to whatever your server’s ip or alias is. It will pause for awhile and then magicly start working.

Wohoo!

Lost password for Symantec End Point Protection

Resetting the administrator password to admin. Don’t forget that the username is admin, not administrator as well.

Step 1

1.Open Windows Explorer on the computer that runs Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

2. Goto from a command prompt, :\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools folder.

3. Run resetpass.bat executable file.

The password is reset to admin.

4.Change the password immediately.

5. If you locked out the account, wait 15-60 minutes and then try it.

Aloha POS in a Virtualized Environment

Another day, another adventure. Today i am trying to keep a restaurant POS system alive on new hardware. The system is Aloha POS and it is currently running in a Windows 98 second edition box from the stone ages.

1. Virtual Box – Forget about it, very bad support for Video. Two suggested options, a beta project driver and an old video utilitiy that has no support either. BOOHOO.

2. Paralells Virtual Desktop 4.0 – Cost $79 per station – No good, ARGH!! If your machine doesn’t have a processor that supports virtualization, your done.

3. Microsoft Virtual PC – Trying it now, everything seems to work great, but the touch screen support is not working correctly yet, nor do i think it will. Looks like a delay problem between the screen and the virtual machine. Best and cleanest install so far.

4. VMWare Workstation – Cost $199 – Interesting bug, the PCI Standard Bridge seems to be caught in a loop, but go with it, 32 times later it will install and move along on the installation. Still working on  this one.
